There was a time when fairness creams’ usage was booming in India. It thrived on an age-old myth where it is equated with beauty. There was an upsurge in the fairness cream market because of this. While there were many in favor of fairness creams, we also had Bollywood celebrities like Nandita Das saying a resounding no for this fairness thing.
And now, we have Anushka Sharma added to that list of Bollywood celebrities who have refused to endorse fairness cream.
Yes! She opines that these fairness creams propagate racism and sexist beliefs. Well! These products do just that. She said, ”I will not propagate anything that says this is right or wrong.”
Fighting the old-age notion? Maybe yes.
This is not the first time that Bollywood has taken a stand for this cause. Many actresses like Kangana and Nandita have done the same. Even, Ranbir Kapoor!
Kangana Ranaut had turned down a 2 Crore deal which endorsed fairness cream. She had her reasons too. She said that she couldn’t go ahead with that because she has a sister who is not fair, but she is equally beautiful.

27 July, 2015, will be remembered as a sad day for India. We have lost an astute aerospace engineer, author and professor. But most of all, we have lost an exemplary human being.
